Blending the perfect combination of style and sound, the HiFiMAN Sundara is the best planar magnetic headphone at its price-point. The NsD diaphragm brings out the natural tonality and timbre of your music while the build quality ensures that it lasts long — over your ears as well as on a stand.
The HiFiMAN Sundara is inspired by the Sanskrit word, 'Sundara,' which literally means beautiful. This gorgeous planar magnetic headphone is designed to be beautiful in every aspect — Be it in looks as well as sound.
Stunning Audio Playback
Experience a wide frequency response with faster and detailed playback with the HiFiMAN Sundara. The open-back earcups house a new Neo supernano Diaphragm (NsD). At a mere 1-2 microns thick, it is 80% thinner than the brand's previous designs. With these drivers, every musical detail is intact, just as the artist recorded it.
Gorgeous and Comfortable
The Sundara is designed to look stunning while staying comfortable. A sleek and sumptuous matte black finish adds panache to this over-ear. The weight-dispersing strap spreads the weight of the headphone evenly to avoid any pressure. The aluminium headband is lightweight and durable to ensure that it lasts long. The 3.5mm headphone jack is durable and compatible with most smartphones and music players.
Great pair to own and need a serious dedicated amp to drive.
Now straight to the review
Imaging is pretty good. Soundstage is slightly wide the instrument separation and air of the headphone give the illusion of a larger width.Bass is not too much in quantity, but what's there is a very tasteful and punchy.Treble is very natural and not sibilant .Mids and Vocals are not as forward and offers a different experience due to the lack of warmth, as the treble is not as recessed, vocals sound more natural.
Coming from 599 and some other entry level IEMs, they sound very complete and nothing seems to be lacking in terms of sound or stage, which I felt in my earlier devices. I like its overall sound presentation and comfort is great for me as well. I am very satisfied with the product.
Firstly, would like to thank Pritam ji from the TAS team for all the help and guidance he provided while buying the headpones and also to ensure same day delivery.
I was smitten by this pair when I had attended one of the Hifiman listening sessions arranged by The Audio Store. It helped change my decision from getting a HE400SE to the Sundaras and I don't regret it at all.
So far, Sundaras have done more than justice to all the stuff I've thrown at it. Orchestral/OSTs, Metal, EDM/Trance, Indian Classical, retro rock & pop, to name a few genres. It renders everything beautifully.
A great set, if anyone is considering, you won't regret it!
Truly a next level experience in terms of sound and 'feeling' for people who are used to regular headphones.
Sensitive to EQ.
Clamping force is a bit tight. Headband adjustments require some 'brute force'. But then maybe it's all for a reason.
On a hot day, the earpads get hot. Not to extremely uncomfortable levels, but still noticeable.
Do I recommend them? Yes, definitely. Much much much better than my earlier Sennheiser HD599SE. But comfort on HD599SE is better.
Requires a reasonably good DAC - HIDIZS S8 and the older HIDIZS S3 (not S3 pro)drive it pretty well. This was surprising since S8 is rated at 30mW. Volume from the laptop jack is enough for me, but sound quality is definitely not.
