Excellent

Its total value for money. Such quality of sound in such a tiny dynamite and most importantly in such affordable price gives total satisfaction. No regret, though would love to have call function and play pause button.

Better audio with the DAC

I used it with 1MORE Quad driver on iPhone 11 pro and Hp pavilion x360.

There is a considerable improvement on iPhone than Hp Pavillion maybe it would have better DAC implementations. Vocals use to be dark on my earphones and soon I started using it with DAC, I realised that the cause was iPhone's output not in the earphones. With the DAC audio is much better, very less noise(almost no noise), vocals got amplified(does amplification) and smooth(does increase resolution) and overall flat sound.

To be honest, I would say, If you are going to upgrade your earphones, This time give a try for DAC instead, maybe your earphones are limiting its true potential because of the audio source.

If you say "Do I need DAC necessarily for better audio experience?".
I would say "No", sometimes you may not even notice the difference because your audio source is already at its best position. modern devices these days have Improved to an extent.

If you can shell some extra bucks out of your pocket and don't want to miss any extra details in your audio, I would strongly recommend this product. I think there are very few DACs that are compatible with iPhones and TempoTec Sonata HD PRO is one among them. Having connector included is a plus point while with other DACs you have to use OTG cable.

Build quality - 5 stars(hard metal body)
Size is much smaller than I thought.
Volume Buttons - They are little but fine cause I don't change them frequently and phone to have its separate volume levels so you can change them accordingly.

Strongly recommended!!

Small Package, Big Sound!

I'm an audio engineer that loves taking his studio on the road. At work, I'm running an Antelope Orion Studio interface with Sennheiser HD800s and wanted something not too expensive to complement my phone and simply tinker around with. I looked at the Hidizs S8 and then saw this product, realized it was the same components inside, and gave it a shot.

Delivery was quick and the follow-up with each stage was more than satisfactory.
The unboxing made me happy; it comes in a metal tin with compartments for all the individual components. The Hi-Res sticker was also a nice touch. The product itself comes with three connectors:
1. 1x USB-A to USB-C
2. 1x USB Micro-B to USB-C
3. 1x Lightning to USB Micro-B

The dongle itself uses a Micro-B connector, which is a slight bummer since I would have preferred USB-C, but it's a very minor gripe nonetheless, especially since I don't plan on detaching the cable from the dongle at all, and instead will use the USB-C end to move the device around.

The build of the unit is excellent. Solid feeling metallic construction with the Tempotec logo on the front and a DSD logo on the back. No creaks, no loose seams. The buttons are moderately tactile if a little lacking in the feedback department and the fact that the buttons aren't backlit, which would have been useful in a studio environment. Two more things I found missing were the hardware mute button as well as a manual switch for Hi-Z and Low-Z gain modes. Those two inclusions would have honestly taken this product to a whole another level. However, overall, the build is very satisfying.

As for how it sounds, I can only tell you the following:
It's precise, clear, and brings out nuances very well. There is a certain quality of this Cirrus Logic DAC that makes you listen more closely to what's playing, and that is still achieved without any noticeable coloration to the sound, which, especially at this price, is exceptionally impressive. Very low noise floor, and great dynamic range. Bass roll-off is practically zero, the low-end hits deep and punches hard where it needs to, mids are forward and well-presented and have a ton of character. Highs are silky smooth and accurate with no additional hiss or sibilance added to the sound. It sounds natural and gives you exactly what you put into it; it neither makes bad stuff sound artificially good nor dampens good recordings. This quality is something I always look for as an audio engineer, and in this case, it is good enough for me to consider using it to mix my tracks on the road in a pinch, and that says a lot. That being said, it cannot drive my HD800s well, and in fact, I wouldn't use headphones above 100 ohms with this DAC unless I was running a dedicated amplifier. As a D/A, this impresses. A lot.
Latency wasn't too terrible, either, with about 5ms at best with 220smp within FL Studio 20. Not impressive figures for latency-critical work, but 5ms is honestly good enough to make a noticeable difference from integrated audio. The volume controls function, but I preferred setting it to two clicks below max. The sound does kind of roughen up a little at the max volume (it doesn't clip or distort, but it does lose some timbre and starts sounding a little less natural and less-well-rounded).

I tested the DAC with a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pros, KZ ZST, and my AKG K92s with a collection of 24/44.1 to 24/192 FLACs by artists ranging from Tool to Harakiri For The Sky, as well as some Mozart FLACs and DSD64s, along with my own mixes. All played as expected. Excellent soundstage and positional accuracy.

All in all, an amazing product for the money. Has great specs, does what it says on the tin. It is an amazing value. Would recommend!

Worth the buy

At first, I was a little sceptical about the product. But holy smokes this works like a charm. Everything sounds analytically detailed. I wasn't aware of the noise that my laptop soundcard gave until I used this, the output is incredibly clean for such a small device. This is one-stop for those who are looking for a budget DAC. Easily recommended. Chiao!
