Intuaura Purple: A hidden gem

Intuaura Purple is a rare find single DD IEM for me in this year. I have couple of kilo-buck IEMs in my possession, however there is something special in it that keeps me going for it frequently. This is by far one of my top 5 IEM that I have listened to till date, and I have listened to a good number of high tier IEMs.

Packaging and build quality: The IEM comes in a decent package with a very nice copper cable and usual accessory at this price point. The cable is very good quality made out of high-purity copper with 4.4 mm termination. It is very well built, soft, supple and light weight despite having 16 strand wire-core. Provided ear-tips included foam and two type of silicon ear-tips, but I am settled on my Spinfit CP100+ which is my go to ear-tips. The shell is beautifully made out of semi-transparent resin. The ergonomic design and medium size of the IEM is perfect for my ear and it is quite isolating as well. I don’t feel an urge to reposition it even after using it for 2 hours at stretch. 2-pin socket is a slight bit recessed, giving extra protection to the socket. The socket itself appears sturdy. While a resin shell can’t be as sturdy as a metal one; nonetheless in my more than one month usage I can comfortably say that it is going to last a long, long time if you apply some care and don’t handle it badly.

Driver technology: The Purple is using a Japanese LCP single dynamic driver with a frequency response range of 5Hz to 50kHz in lab condition. It has a decent impedance of 29Ω for a single DD IEM. While the sensitivity is rated as 126dB per VRMS and theoretically it is easy to drive with an Apple lightning adapter but it shines with quality sources such as Chord Mojo2 or Earman Angel.

Sound signature: I would describe the sound signature as mild U shaped which is greatly extended at both ends. The unique thing about Purple is it’s sweet, cohesive and analogue like sound signature that lets everything shines, even those tracks that are not so well recorded/mixed.
Bass – Bass is very tight, punchy, textured and fast. Quantity is good enough but not at bass head level. Sub-bass and mid-bass is very well balanced out, so I didn’t notice over emphasis on sub-bass which is the trend now-a-days. Bass is very nuanced, textured and tactile. I prefer the quality of bass of Purple over Sennheiser IE600 & Meze Advar due to its better definition around the notes and better balance in entire bass range. Initial impact and release of percussion instrument notes sounds very impactful and engaging.
Mids – There is something unique in the mid-range presentation of Purple. First of all, there is no bleed from bass-frequency, so it sounds clean. Its not overly thick or emotional like Campfire Solaris 2020 but it is very engaging. I think the USP of mid-range is once again the cohesiveness and magical balance in the entire mid-frequency range. Male and female vocals, both sounded natural and full. There was no nasal-ness or graininess/huskiness in their voice. They sounded so real and enjoyable. I am a lover of guitar and guitar sounded very true to life and so are other instruments.
Treble – Treble is actually like salt in food. It can make your food bland if it is not adequate to your taste and a little more of it can make the food brackish. The excellence of Purple’s tuning is reflected in its treble performance. It’s good for treble sensitive people as well as treble lover equally. So, you will get lot of extension, details and air in the treble but without a hint of sibilance or harshness. Instruments that need good treble energy to enjoy properly such as flute just shines on Puprle. The treble performance is neither boring nor aggressive. Balance is the mantra here once again.

Technicalities: Technicalities on Purple is just as solid as its tuning. Positioning and separation of sounds is quite accurate. The soundstage is very good for its price point. You get a good holographic sound stage with nice depth, width and height. Detail retrieval is also top notch, comparable to very respected hybrids/tribrids such as Solaris 2020, Mest MK2 etc. The details are presented in an effortless manner with a natural timbre.
Who should buy: (i) People looking for neutral yet musical sound signature, (ii) Anyone who wants to blind buy anything in this price range and be happy.
Who should not buy: (i) Bassheads, (ii) Anyone looking for too warm or too bright sound signature.
