Edifier MR5 Tri-Amped Powered Studio Monitor Speakers
The Edifier MR5 is a 3-way active studio monitor designed for listeners who want accurate sound reproduction without sacrificing power, connectivity or everyday usability. With 110W RMS total output, a flat 46Hz–40kHz frequency response, dedicated amplification for each driver and both wired and wireless high-resolution audio support, the MR5 works equally well as a studio monitor, desktop speaker system or high-quality music listening setup.
Whether you're producing music, editing videos, mixing tracks, gaming or simply want a more accurate speaker system for your desktop or room, the MR5 is designed to deliver a detailed and natural presentation across the entire audible range.
What makes the Edifier MR5 different?
Unlike conventional 2-way powered speakers, the MR5 uses a 3-way tri-amped architecture. Each speaker has a dedicated woofer, midrange driver and tweeter, with separate amplification for the different frequency ranges.
The system combines full digital signal processing (DSP), a 3-way active crossover and Dynamic Range Control (DRC) to manage the signal before it reaches the individual drivers. This helps produce smoother transitions between bass, midrange and treble while maintaining clarity at higher listening levels.
The result is a more controlled and natural sound that makes it easier to hear vocals, instruments, effects and other details in your music or creative work.
110W RMS Output for Powerful, Controlled Sound
The Edifier MR5 delivers 110W RMS of total system power, making it suitable for both near-field desktop listening and mid-field setups.
The amplification is distributed across the three driver sections:
- Treble: 10W + 10W
- Midrange: 15W + 15W
- Bass: 30W + 30W
The system can reach a maximum sound pressure level of 101dB at 1 metre, providing enough headroom for powerful playback and filling medium-sized rooms without requiring an external amplifier.
3-Way Driver Configuration for Full-Range Sound
The MR5 uses three dedicated drivers in each speaker to cover different parts of the frequency spectrum.
5-inch Woofer
The 5-inch woofer handles the lower frequencies, delivering bass with greater weight and control while maintaining the accuracy expected from a studio-oriented speaker.
3.75-inch Midrange Driver
The 3.75-inch midrange driver focuses on the critical vocal and instrument range. This is particularly important for music production and listening because much of the information in vocals, guitars, keyboards and acoustic instruments sits within the midrange.
1-inch Silk Dome Tweeter
The 1-inch silk dome tweeter reproduces high frequencies with a smooth presentation. Its specially designed dimpled waveguide helps improve high-frequency extension while creating a wider listening area.
Flat 46Hz–40kHz Frequency Response
The Edifier MR5 is engineered with a wide, flat frequency response of 46Hz to 40kHz.
A flatter response is useful when you want your speakers to reproduce the source with minimal tonal coloration. For producers and content creators, this can make it easier to make more informed decisions about EQ, balance and tonal characteristics.
For everyday listeners, the same characteristic means you can hear music with a more neutral and transparent presentation.
Wide Sweet Spot for Flexible Listening
The MR5's tweeter waveguide is designed to expand the speaker's listening area while maintaining high-frequency clarity.
This creates a wider sweet spot, so you don't have to remain perfectly centred between the speakers to enjoy consistent sound.
That makes the MR5 particularly practical for:
- Desktop setups
- Home studios
- Video editing stations
- Gaming setups
- Music listening
- Small and medium-sized rooms
Hi-Res Audio Certified
The MR5 supports high-resolution digital audio up to 24-bit/96kHz.
Its premium analogue front end and Class-D amplification are designed to preserve detail through the signal path, making the speaker suitable for high-resolution music playback as well as creative applications.
Hi-Res Wireless Audio with LDAC
You don't have to use a cable to enjoy high-resolution audio.
The MR5 features a Bluetooth 6.0 audio receiver with support for LDAC, allowing compatible devices to stream high-resolution audio wirelessly at up to 24-bit/96kHz and up to 990kbps.
It also supports SBC for broader Bluetooth compatibility.
Note: Actual Bluetooth audio quality depends on the connected device, operating system, codec support and wireless conditions.
Bluetooth 6.0 Multipoint Connectivity
The built-in Bluetooth 6.0 receiver supports multipoint connectivity, allowing up to two devices to remain connected simultaneously.
This is useful if you use the speakers with more than one device—for example, a laptop and smartphone—and want to switch between them without repeatedly pairing your speakers.
Professional and Everyday Connectivity
The Edifier MR5 offers a wide range of analogue and wireless inputs, making it suitable for both professional audio equipment and consumer devices.
Balanced XLR Input
The balanced XLR input is ideal for connecting the MR5 to audio interfaces, mixers and other professional audio equipment.
Balanced TRS Input
The balanced ¼-inch TRS input provides another professional connection option and is particularly useful for studio equipment with balanced outputs.
RCA Input
The unbalanced RCA input allows easy connection to conventional audio sources, DACs, streamers and other equipment.
3.5mm AUX Input
The 3.5mm AUX input makes it easy to connect compatible phones, laptops, tablets and other portable sources.
Headphone Output
A 3.5mm headphone output provides convenient headphone connectivity when you want to switch from speakers to private listening.
Tune the MR5 to Your Room
A studio monitor can sound different depending on where it is positioned and the acoustics of the room. The MR5 therefore includes several room acoustic compensation controls to help adapt its sound to your listening environment.
High Control
Adjusts frequencies above 10kHz by ±6dB, allowing you to compensate for a room that sounds excessively bright or too subdued in the upper frequencies.
Low Control
Adjusts frequencies around 125Hz by ±6dB, helping you control the amount of upper-bass/low-frequency energy.
Low Cut-Off
Attenuates selected low-frequency content to better suit the size and volume of your listening environment.
Acoustic Space
Helps compensate for bass and midrange changes caused by speaker placement, particularly when speakers are positioned close to walls or other surfaces.
Desktop Control
Designed to compensate for reflections created when the speakers are placed on a desktop.
These controls give you more flexibility to achieve a balanced presentation instead of relying on a single fixed sound profile.
Control Everything with the EDIFIER ConneX App
The EDIFIER ConneX app adds convenient control over the MR5 from your compatible mobile device.
With the app, you can access features such as:
- Playback control
- Sound effect selection
- Custom EQ settings
- Room compensation settings
- Additional speaker settings
- User manual and product information
The MR5 also offers dual preset sound modes, while the customizable EQ gives you additional control over the speaker's tonal presentation.
Is the Edifier MR5 Good for Music Production?
Yes. The MR5 is designed with several features that make it suitable for music production and critical listening, including a flat 46Hz–40kHz response, 3-way active architecture, tri-amped amplification, DSP and room compensation controls.
The separate woofer, midrange and tweeter help distribute the frequency range across dedicated drivers, while the active crossover manages the transition between them.
For serious professional studio work, your room acoustics, speaker positioning, listening distance and calibration will still have a significant impact on the final result.
Is the Edifier MR5 Good for Home Listening?
Yes. Although the MR5 has studio-monitoring credentials, its combination of 110W RMS power, wide frequency response, Bluetooth 6.0, LDAC, multiple analogue inputs and customizable EQ makes it versatile enough for everyday music listening.
You can connect a computer or audio interface through XLR/TRS, traditional equipment through RCA, portable devices through AUX, or compatible smartphones and tablets wirelessly through Bluetooth.
Is the Edifier MR5 Suitable for a Desktop Setup?
Yes. The MR5 can be used as a near-field desktop monitor, and its Desktop Control compensation setting is specifically designed to address sound reflections caused by desktop placement.
For the best results, position the left and right speakers symmetrically, aim the tweeters toward your listening position and leave appropriate space from nearby walls where possible.
