TANCHJIM SPACE II Portable DAC & Amplifier
The TANCHJIM SPACE II Portable DAC & Amplifier is a compact USB DAC/AMP designed for listeners who want high-resolution sound, powerful headphone amplification and flexible DSP tuning without carrying a bulky desktop setup.
At just 15.1 grams, SPACE II is small enough to pair with your smartphone, tablet or laptop and powerful enough to drive a wide range of IEMs and headphones. It combines a Dual CS43131 DAC architecture, TANCHJIM's self-developed Clean Bridge USB digital input chipset, 4.4mm balanced output, 3.5mm single-ended output and advanced online DSP functionality.
Whether you are listening to music, watching movies, gaming or simply looking for a better DAC for your phone or laptop, the SPACE II is designed to be an easy-to-carry, high-performance audio solution.
Dual CS43131 DAC for High-Resolution Audio
At the heart of the TANCHJIM SPACE II is a Dual CS43131 DAC chipset configuration designed to deliver clean, detailed and highly accurate digital-to-analogue conversion.
The dual-DAC architecture is combined with a carefully designed balanced digital and analogue circuit layout to help minimise interference and channel crosstalk. This allows SPACE II to deliver a clean background, strong channel separation and precise reproduction of your music.
It supports PCM audio up to 32-bit/384kHz and native DSD256, making it suitable for high-resolution music libraries and lossless streaming services.
What does this mean for everyday listening?
You can connect SPACE II to a compatible smartphone, tablet or laptop and use it as an external DAC and amplifier, bypassing the device's built-in audio hardware.
For audiophiles, this means you can get a more capable conversion and amplification stage without having to carry a traditional desktop DAC/amp.
TANCHJIM "Clean Bridge" USB Digital Input
TANCHJIM has developed its own Clean Bridge USB digital input chipset for SPACE II instead of relying solely on a generic USB interface solution.
The USB bridge handles digital audio data transmission between your source device and the DAC section, helping provide stable digital signal processing before conversion.
The result is a carefully engineered signal path designed around the Dual CS43131 DAC architecture.
SPACE II uses a USB Type-C input, making it compatible with modern smartphones, tablets, computers and other USB audio sources.
Powerful 4.4mm Balanced Output
Despite its compact size, the TANCHJIM SPACE II has a capable amplifier section with output power of up to 235mW @ 32Ω.
It provides two headphone outputs:
- 3.5mm Single-Ended
- 4.4mm Balanced
The 4.4mm balanced output provides up to 4Vrms, while the 3.5mm single-ended output provides up to 2Vrms.
This gives you greater flexibility depending on the IEM or headphone you are using.
The SPACE II is rated for headphones and IEMs with impedance from approximately 8–300Ω, making it suitable for everything from sensitive IEMs to many portable and full-size headphones.
Note: Output power requirements vary significantly between headphones and IEMs. Maximum output does not automatically mean every headphone will benefit from additional power.
3.5mm Output with In-Line Microphone Support
The 3.5mm output isn't just for listening.
SPACE II supports CTIA-standard in-line microphone input through its 3.5mm connection. This makes it particularly useful for gaming, voice communication and calls when using compatible wired earphones or headsets.
You can also use the 4.4mm balanced output for audio while using the 3.5mm connection for microphone input, making SPACE II a versatile option for gaming and communication setups.
Advanced Online DSP & TANCHJIM App Support
One of the biggest advantages of the SPACE II over a conventional USB DAC is its interactive DSP functionality.
Through compatible TANCHJIM software, users can explore and apply different sound profiles and tuning presets.
The online DSP ecosystem provides access to:
- Hi-Fi sound presets
- Official target curves
- Personalised sound filters
- Gaming presets
- Virtual soundstage profiles
- Community-created tuning profiles
This means you don't have to stick with one fixed sound signature.
Want a different tonal balance for a particular genre? You can experiment with available DSP profiles. Prefer a different sound for gaming or movies? Dedicated presets give you additional options.
For enthusiasts who enjoy experimenting with EQ and different tunings, the online DSP community adds another layer of flexibility to the SPACE II.
UAC 1.0 & UAC 2.0: Music and Gaming Compatibility
The TANCHJIM SPACE II supports both UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0, with hardware-level switching between the two modes.
UAC 2.0 provides high-resolution USB audio compatibility with devices such as:
- Smartphones
- Tablets
- Windows PCs
- Mac computers
- Laptops
- Other compatible USB audio devices
UAC 1.0 compatibility makes SPACE II more versatile with gaming consoles and older USB audio hosts that may not support UAC 2.0.
This makes the SPACE II more than just a smartphone DAC—it can also function as a compact audio solution for gaming and multimedia setups.
Designed for IEMs and Headphones
With its combination of low distortion, high dynamic range and multiple output options, the SPACE II works particularly well with portable audio equipment.
For sensitive IEMs, the clean output and low distortion help preserve subtle details without unnecessarily colouring the sound.
For headphones that require more power, the 4.4mm balanced output delivers up to 235mW @ 32Ω, providing considerably more output capability than many basic USB-C dongles.
The compatible impedance range is approximately 8–300Ω, although actual performance will depend on the sensitivity and electrical characteristics of your specific headphones or IEMs.
Extremely Low Distortion & High Dynamic Range
The SPACE II is engineered for clean signal reproduction, with impressive measured specifications.
It offers:
- 132.2dB Dynamic Range
- 0.000156% THD+N
- Up to 116dB SINAD
These specifications indicate a very low-noise and low-distortion signal path, allowing the DAC/amp to reproduce music without adding significant unwanted distortion.
For listeners using high-resolution IEMs and headphones, this provides a technically clean foundation for detailed music playback.
Premium CNC-Machined Aluminium Construction
The SPACE II combines performance with a distinctive compact design.
Its chassis uses precision CNC-machined aluminium alloy, providing a sturdy and premium-feeling enclosure while keeping the weight extremely low.
One of its most recognisable design elements is the transparent window, which gives you a view of the internal circuit board and digital architecture.
Despite its compact dimensions of approximately 4.2 × 2.1 × 1.2cm, the SPACE II houses a complete Dual DAC, USB interface, DSP and amplifier system.
At approximately 15.1 grams, it adds very little weight to a smartphone or laptop setup.
Low Power Consumption
Portable DAC/AMPs need to balance performance with battery consumption.
The SPACE II is designed with efficiency in mind, consuming approximately 0.4W at a 32Ω load.
This makes it suitable for everyday portable listening without the power requirements associated with larger desktop DAC/AMPs.
